Winter Blahs Pick-Me-Up Bento

I have the winter blahs. This form of the cold-weather blues usually sets in at the end of January. between the freezing temps, the lack of sunlight, and the sometimes frightening driving conditions, winter eventually takes a toll on everyone, except the most thick-blooded of snow beasts.

I was born in Florida, and even though I was raised in Michigan and I now reside in northern Ohio, it’s safe to say that I am NOT a thick-blooded snow beast.

Of course, the days are getting longer, and each day brings us closer to the much-awaited arrival of spring. I’m holding out hope for an early thaw this year, since winter hasn’t been as rough as it usually is.

To perk myself up and to get my mind off of the winter blahs, I prepared this colorful bento. It features tuna cakes with cocktail sauce, provolone butterflies, Italian bologna hearts, more cabbage stir fry, an agar-agar jelly, and coconut curry rice with lime peel packed into my onigiri case.

Are you a warm-weather or cold-weather person?

Coconut curry rice sounds pretty tasty, and I love the provolone butterflies. 🙂 As much as I complain, I think I’m more a cold weather person. I can’t stand being too hot. Although today was awfully cold…

I had bought a whole can of coconut milk but only needed 1/3 cup of it. Well, it’s awfully expensive stuff to just throw away, so I figured heck, why not throw it in some rice with some curry? It wasn’t too bad. Interesting, like most of my concoctions that involve curry.

And yes, it was waaaaaay too cold this morning. I took the dogs out before work and Schnitzel refused to potty outside.

The coconut curry rice with lime peel sounds fantastic!!! Wow, that combo is making my mouth water! Where in FL were you born? I was born in Tallahassee but raised in St. Petersburg, currently live in Tampa, lol! I can’t handle cold weather either.

I’m looking forward to seeing your bento blog shout out!

The rice needed a little more coconut and lime, I think. A smidge of hot sauce would have helped. I had just brushed my teeth when I made it so I didn’t try it until I opened my bento. XD

I was born in DeLand. I think it’s just a little town. I don’t remember it because we moved back up north when I was little.

I like the combination… very colorful!

I’m a cold weather person and do not have mid-winter blahs. 😉 I love this snow… hiking, cross-country skiing. Oh, I grew up in MI too…

Michigan weather is so funny, huh? In the winter it thinks its located in the arctic circle, and in the summer it thinks its in the tropics!

I probably would tolerate winter more if I participated in winter-related activities. I used to love sledding as a kid but I don’t do it anymore.
